Botanical Name: Rhododendron maximum
Common Name: Mountain Rosebay
Height/Width:
10-12’tall X 6-8’width
Form: Irregular
Range: Zone 5
Habitat:
Moist woodlands
Wildlife Value:
Deer love this plant. They will browse it as high as they can reach leaving the shrub with a bonsai look. A good evergreen for shelter for small birds, particularly good for people doing backyard habitats that don’t have room for a large conifer.
Landscape Value: The last rhododendron to flower, it doesn’t disappoint. Large pale pink to white blossoms on a substantial sized shrub are stunning in June.
Notes:
This shrub will adapt to sunny conditions but looks best when used as an edge planting or in woodland, understory setting.
